CDC 2010 Treatment Guidelines*
This 90 minute webinar is available through Cardea Services and the Seattle STD/HIV Prevention Training Center. The purpose of this 90-minute webinar is to detail major changes in recommendations from those outlined in the Sexually Transmitted Diseases Treatment Guidelines, 2006; highlight the advantages of nucleic acid amplification testing (NAAT) for the diagnosis of Chlamydia and Gonorrhea; and describe patient preference and criteria for using vaginal swabs vs. other specimen types.
The NNPTC Online STD Case Series*
This eLearning course is developed by the National Network of STD/HIV Prevention Training Centers (NNPTC) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The web-based case series is designed for practicing clinicians who diagnose, treat and manage patients with, or at risk for, STDs. The series includes case presentations of common STD-related syndromes with a guided, interactive process to evaluate each case, arrive at a diagnosis and provide recommended treatment. In addition, each case is designed to improve skills in assessing patient risk, communicating risk reduction techniques and managing partners.
Just Ask! Communicating Confidently about STDs, HIV, and Sexual Activity*
This interactive multi-media course is developed by Academic Edge, Inc. through funding provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Recognizing that discussions with patients about sexual activity and associated risks are uncomfortable for many providers, this online course presents communication strategies and methods that will enable health care professionals to confidently interact with patients during the assessment, screening, treatment, and prevention of HIV and STDs.
Talking the Talk: Communicating with Adolescents about Reproductive Health*
This eLearning course is developed by the Sylvie Ratelle STD/HIV Prevention Training Center of New England through funding from CDC. Health care providers may have difficulty talking to adolescents about reproductive health care, but choosing not to broach the topic may have serious consequences. Many teens at risk for sexually transmitted infections are not being screened, and the United States teen pregnancy rate is the highest in the developed world. This course aims to give health care providers the knowledge and language they need to ask sensitive questions about sexual health as well as both the knowledge and cultural competency to respond effectively.
